Functional Guide

Here you find a short description of basic functional areas of conceptcms:

Menu Items

Menu Items are used to group documents in conceptcms, as well as to build navigation structures for the Website managed with conceptcms. Menu items have their own HTML Menu Item Templates, e.g. used to define content to be repeated on all documents of a menu item or to integrate content from different documents within one page displayed in the Website. Menu items can be public or private.

Templates

Templates define functionality and design of documents. All documents are based on templates. A structural template is based on Content Elements (CE). Content Elements define, which kind of content (e.g. text, images, ...) and which kind of functionality (e.g. a search or an e-mail form) will be available for a document based on a template. With HTML templates, you can add functionality and define the basic structure and design. Every structural template can have one or more HTML templates.

Documents

Documents are based on templates, they contain content. They can be independent or can retrieve content from other documents (overview, search) and/or can have hierarchical relations to other documents.  conceptcms offers separate working- and live-versions, a one-step publication mechanism (separately by language) and a scheduler tool for time-controlled actions.

Easy Edit (obsolete, only until Version 5.0)

Easy Edit is an easy way to manage content directly from the Website. The editor does not use the document list, but sees the Website in a kind of direct edit mode with functional icons for the most important operations. This way, you can create, edit, lock, deactivate, delete and publish documents.

Media Library

The media library is a repository for data (like files, images) used in the Website. For images, a powerfull image processing tool is integrated, in addition, dynamic images with functional layers (icons, links, text, ...) can be created. You can access all data from the media library where you need it.

Styles

Styles define the essential formatting for contents, as fonts, colours, table styles or backgrounds for the Website. In modern HTML programming, almost the complete layout including structural elements can be done via styles. They are defined once per customer. In addition, we fully support the well-known CSS framework YAML.

Administration

The administration area of conceptcms offers the following features:

  • Groups
Functional groups are defined system-wide and define detailed rights regarding functionality of conceptcms (over 100 rights regarding functionality like new, edit, delete, publish ...). Groups are assigned to customers and users of a customer can belong to one or more groups.
    >> Groups

  • Customer
conceptcms supports multiple customers within one workspace (one database). A customer can e.g. be used as administrative entity for a Website. You assign language and groups to customers, and customers have users.
    >> Customer

  • User
Users belong to exactly one customer and can belong to one or more group/s. In addition, user can belong to one or more User Content Groups or Admin Content groups (see above). Here, you define content-based access rights either on Website level (login into Website for registered users) or administration level (access restrictions for administrative users).
    >> User

  • User Content Groups (UCG)
Customer-related UCG define access rights based on content (menu items) for normal users that either have been created in the user administration or have registered directly on the Website. This way, you can give access to private Website content to known users.
    >> User Content Groups (UCG)

  • Admin Content Groups (ACG)
Customer-related ACG define access rights based on content (menu items) for administrative users This way, you can restrict access for editors and administrators to defined content.
    >> Admin Content Groups (ACG)

  • Languages
The system supports the setup of different languages (using UTF-( encoding) for the use in templates and documents. Languages are available throughout the whole system (workspace), and they need to be assigned to customers.

Plugins & Modules

You can program your own external applications and integrate them into conceptcms via a defined interface. Modules are usually smaller functional enhancements for conceptcms.
